매 순간이 선물이고 기적입니다
Often hearing the difficulty of finding a job these days, I read an article about Juhee Kim, developmentally challenged, the first tour guide in Changdeokgung.
취업의 어려움을 종종 듣는 요즘, 발달장애우 최초 ‘창덕궁 가이드’ 김주희 씨 기사를 읽게 되었습니다.
Boasting of four seasons of Changdeokgung, her voice is full of confidence and she can explain the history of the Palace for people to better understand. She also adds, The Palace is her playground, the second hometown and another home.
창덕궁의 사계절을 자랑하는 그녀의 목소리는 당차며, 고궁의 역사를 알기 쉽게 설명할 수 있게 합다. 그녀는 또 창덕궁은 놀이터이고 제2의 고향이며 또 하나의 집이라고 합니다.
It has been 10 months since she has worked as a tour guide and she has met 300 tourists during the period. She confesses that every moment is a present and miracle to her.
그녀가 가이드를 시작한 지는 약 10개월 정도가 되었고, 그동안 300명의 관광객을 만나며 그녀는 매 순간이 선물이고 기적이라고 고백합니다.
Commonly, the developmentally challenged get a simple job through repetitive training. According to a survey by the Ministry of Health, only 37% of the entire disabled engaged in the economic activity last year.
흔히 발달장애우는 반복 훈련을 통해 간단한 업무를 맡는다고 합니다. 복지부 조사에 의하면, 작년 경제활동에 참가하는 장애우의 비율은 37%에 불과했다고 합니다.
What she has grown is a little slower than others though, she was very pleased with reading books. She found herself be intellectually disabled in the first grade of her elementary school, however, she finished from a special class to a high school course in the regular school.
어릴 적 그녀의 모습은 또래 아이들보다 조금 느렸지만, 책 읽기를 무척 기뻐했다고 합니다. 그녀는 비록 초등학교 1학년 때 지적장애 판정을 받았지만, 일반 학교의 특수학급에서 고교 과정까지 마쳤습니다.
Preparing for a tour guide, her sincerity is outstanding. She continued practicing for 3 or 4 hours at home. Specially, she memorized the guide book whose volume has 6 times longer than the regular one to prepare for questions during her guide.
가이드 준비 과정에서 그녀의 성실성이 돋보입니다. 집에서도 서너 시간 정도 연습했으며, 특히, 가이드 중 받게 될 질문에 대비하기 위해 가이드 해설의 여섯 배 넘는 분량을 외웠습니다.
Likewise, what she had read lots of books from her childhood and her sincerity made her gain this job.
이처럼 어릴 때부터 많은 책을 읽은 것과 그녀의 성실성이 그녀에게 가이드 일을 맡게 해 준 것입니다.
Her first salary was about 480,000won. What is the happiest thing to her while working as a tour guide? It might be assumed by what she frankly says as follows.
그녀의 첫 월급은 약 48만원 정도였습니다. 그녀가 가이드 일을 하며 가장 행복한 점은 무엇일까요? 그녀의 솔직한 말을 통해 짐작할 수 있을 것 같습니다.
“I bought this for the first time, with what I earned, so it was meaningful.”
“제가 처음 산 거였는데, 번 돈으로 직접 사서 뜻깊었어요.”

“나라의 일원이 돼서 좋아요. 제 힘으로 세금 낼 수 있어서 기뻐요.”
Job is very important in that it gives people what to do.
직업은 할 일을 부여한다는 점에서 매우 중요합니다.
There are two kinds of jobs, though. One is what I achieved and the other is what I have been assigned.
그러나 직업에도 두 가지 종류가 있습니다. 내가 획득한 직업과 나에게 주어진 직업이 있습니다.
Christians usually work for the latter one, what they have been assigned. This is calling. What is your calling?
