아폴로 11호의 숨겨진 영웅, 마이클 콜린스

Neil Armstrong is known for the first human being of the lunar landing.
닐 암스트롱은 인류 최초의 달 착륙의 영웅으로 알려져 있습니다.

However, there is another unknown hero of helping the lunar landing.
그러나, 달 착륙 성공을 도운 또 한 명의 잘 알려지지 않은 영웅이 있습니다.

He is Michael Collins who was the Command Module Pilot of Apollo 11.
그는 바로 미국 우주선 아폴로 11호 사령선 조종을 맡았던 우주비행사 마이클 콜린스입니다.

As all of you know, Apollo 11 landed on the moon on July 1969.
모두가 아는 것처럼, 아폴로 11호는 1969년 7월에 달에 착륙했습니다.

There were Captain Neil Armstrong, Pilot Buzz Aldrin and the Command Pilot Michael Collins in the spaceship.
그 우주선 안에는 선장 닐 암스트롱과 조종사 버즈 올드린, 그리고 사령선 조종사 마이클 콜린스가 탑승하고 있었습니다.

While Armstrong and Aldrin took LM and landed on the surface of the moon, Collins flew CSM and went around the orbit of the moon and helped them to land on the moon.
암스트롱과 올드린은 달 착륙선(LM, Lunar Module)을 타고 달 표면에 첫발을 내디뎠지만 콜린스는 사령선과 기계선(CSM; Command and Service Module)을 타고 달 궤도를 선회하며 이들의 달 착륙 임무를 도왔습니다.

In fact, Collins was superior to Aldrin in rank so he was supposed to explore the moon with Armstrong. But Aldrin had difficulty in controlling the Module by himself, so he decided to stay in the ship.
사실 콜린스는 올드린보다 지위가 높아 암스트롱과 함께 달 탐험을 하기로 되어 있었습니다. 하지만 버즈가 단독 조종을 하기에 어려움이 있어, 그가 대신 사령선에 남기로 한 것입니다.

We often talk about well-known heroes, but do not easily recognize those who do work hard in silence.

Although people see those who are taken in the picture, but do not know who took this picture. A picture Collins had taken is as the same.

The picture is describing that Armstrong and Aldrin taking off the moon are coming close to dock with the Command Module.
그 사진은 달에서 이륙한 암스트롱과 올드린이 탄 달 착륙선이 사령선과 도킹하기 위해 다가오는 모습을 보여주고 있습니다.

I heard the news that Collins ended his life at 90 after suffering from cancer.
최근에 콜린스가 암 투병 끝에 90세로 삶을 마무리했다는 소식이 들렸습니다.

When his family and friends asked Collins that he regretted not to land on the moon, it was said that he was okay. He just did what he had to do.
그의 가족과 친구들이 콜린스에게 달에 직접 가지 못해 후회스럽냐고 물었을 때, 그는 그저 자신의 일을 한 것뿐이며 괜찮다고 말했다 합니다.

What we made it is more important than what I did.
