여의도순복음교회 이영훈 목사에게 보낸 메시지에서 WCC는 “조용기 목사님의 별세 소식에 매우 슬프고 안타깝게 생각한다”며 “유족들과 여의도순복음교회 성도들에게 위로와 애도를 전한다”고 밝혔다.
WCC는 특히 “조 목사님이 2013년 제10차 부산 WCC 총회를 지원하고 기여해 주신 데 깊은 감사를 표한다”며 “예수 그리스도를 증거하는 삶을 사셨던 조 목사님을 보내주신 하나님께 감사드린다”고 말했다.
또 “신실하고 사랑받았던 주님의 종, 조용기 목사님에게 생명과 부활의 주님께서 안식을 주시길 원한다”며 “고통과 슬픔 속의 우리에게도 주님의 위로와 희망이 임하길 소망한다”고 전했다. 다음은 영문 메시지 전문.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
It is with great sadness that we have received the news of demise of Rev. Cho Yong-gi, founder and emeritus pastor at Yoido Full Gospel Church. On behalf of the World Council of Churches (WCC), I express my deep sorrow and prayers in support of both his bereaved family and all members of Yoido Full Gospel Church.
As we mourn his passing away, we give thanks to his contribution and support to the 10th WCC Assembly which took place in Busan, Republic of Korea. We also deeply appreciate that he encouraged his church members to fully participate in the Busan Assembly.
We thank God for the life and witness of Rev. Cho Yong-gi and we offer our heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family and Yoido Full Gospel Church.
May our common Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of life and resurrection, give rest to his faithful and beloved servant Rev. Cho Yong-gi. May God also grant us grace, that in pain we may find comfort, in sorrow hope, in death resurrection.
