An effective mentor leverages their professional experience to provide support and instruction to mentees to help envision success, find the right direction, and take steps to unlock their full career potential.
Many Koreans are first-generation college students who abound in ambition and work ethic but lack the professional mentors, networks, and opportunities that their American counterparts have. As one of the only Koreans in the Big 4 SoCal M&A (Mergers & Acquisitions) Deals group, I can attest there are even less Asian mentors to look up to in the professional business environment.
So where are all of my fellow Koreans who I took SAT classes with, studied for AP and IB tests with, went to college and graduated with? They are submitting forgettable resumes and bland cover letters, networking ineffectively, falling short in interviews, and placing behind their counterparts who have the soft skillsets needed to get the offer.
Amid domestic/international work trips and 60-120 hour work weeks depending on the transaction, I am passionate about empowering and mentoring other Korean-American young adults so they have someone to look up to and receive the advice/support that I did not. There is a saying, “If you are not a part of the solution, you are a part of the problem.” I am your solution.
Unlike college counselors and academic advisors who work in university settings and are removed from the business world, I have dynamic professional experiences that you can leverage.
